SKD - Devon House River Wall

Devon House is located at St Katharine's Docks in central London, east of Tower Bridge at the north bank of River Thames. The river wall in front of the building is approximately 50m long and 5.5m tall. As part of the planned maintenance, the river wall has been inspected to identify the defects and the outline specifications have been prepared for the brickwork repairs. The works included structural and general repairs to the fabrics of the wall, to halt current wave action wash out and erosion that has occurred throughout the years. The following works have been carried out:

  • Removal of algae
  • Replacement of eroded bricks
  • Stitching of vertical cracks
  • Repointing of mortar line.
  • Replacement of eroded timber fenders

I was responsible for carrying out a condition survey of the river wall and prepare the outline specification for the repairs. At the early stages, I have liaised with the Environment Agency and the Port of London Authority and procured the Contractor who completed the repair works. During the works, I have carried out regular inspections to confirm that they have been carried out in accordance with the specifications. Upon completion, as built information has been issued to the Client.
