Mersey Travel Platform Extensions 

Merseytravel are introducing new class 777 trains on the Merseyrail network to replace the existing class 507/508 rolling stock. The new trains will operate as 4-car and 8- car EMUs. The Mersey Travel Train Lengthening scheme has identified stations that require adjustment to accommodate the new rolling stock.

I have been responsible for the civil/structures design of the platform upgrades in the following Stations: Aughton Park, Formby, Town Green, Bootle Oriel Road, Hightown, Kirkdale and Ormskirm.

Scope included design validation survey and specification of site surveys required to inform our designs (Topographical, Structural / Geotech Investigations and Utilities) that were carried out during night possessions.

Upon completion of the surveys and in liaison with the multidisciplinary team the design has been standardised where possible to cover a range of similar Stations. A single option selection report has been developed and progressed to preliminary and detailed design (F001/F002/F003). During construction was responsible for providing support by resolving site queries.
