Oxford Westgate Shopping Centre

In 2014 Oxford City Council granted permission for the £440m redevelopment of the Westgate Centre. The 74,322m² retail-led mixed-use development in the heart of the Oxford City Centre has 100 new shops, cafes and a five screen cinema, set within a mixture of covered streets, arcades and squares. The scheme will also deliver 59 waterfront homes and a two level basement car park with 1,000 spaces and a large service.

As part of my involvement, I was responsible for the design of 15Nos pedestrian steel bridges connecting the different building blocks of the Shopping Centre. Various types of steel bridges have been designed comprised of UB main girders or trusses with timber or granite finishes. All bridges were supported on elastomeric bearings at one end allowing them to freely move in order to accommodate the bridge as well as the building movements.

Additionally, I have been responsible for Cat II check of the substructure (3 Level basement) and the highway supporting structure.
