Oxford University - Car Park Waterproofing
The Amenities
Building at Old Road Campus is located at Oxford University and comprises of
two predominant elements: The research laboratories to the north (left), and
the multi-storey car park south (right). The car parking building comprised of
double level basement with five floors car parking above ground level and
production kitchen and distribution centre underneath.
To ensure the habitable space in the basement was protected by water ingress through its roof the waterproofing products, waterproofing details and the wearing course have been designed for the ground floor used as distribution deck for delivery lorries.
Responsibilities included specifying
the waterproofing product (Eliminator by Stirling Lloyd including Primer) and
also the hydrophobic strip around the perimeter of the proposed deck. The
interface joint between the deck and the capping beam (Radflex S200 joint) has
been designed and finally, grout tube (reactive waterproofing method) has been
proposed for the entrance to the distribution deck where traffic was expected
to be heavy and the risk of failure was higher.
