Bond Street Station Upgrade
Bond Street Station is one of the busiest stations of the LU network and is on the busiest shopping district in Europe. At the moment the station is used daily by 155,000 passengers. It is expected this number to be increased to 225,000 by 2018 and when the Crossrail ticket hall is going to be built southern of the existing station.
The budget for the Bond Street Station Upgrade project is approximately £130m. The works included the demolition of the existing 5-storey building on 354-348 Oxford street, north of Oxford Street named the Oversite Development (OSD) and the underpinning of an existing Grade II listed building (2 Stratford Place - 2SP) under which the new ticket hall is going to be constructed on Marylebone Street. In addition to the Station Upgrade, works for Crossrail (compensation shafts and utilities replacements), were undertaken as part of the scope of works.Engineering challenges include the top-down construction of the ticket hall structure replacing the basement of a Listed Building constructed in the 1790s, and demolition of a former bank building built in the 1960's to provide access to the shafts and tunnels which will form the new passages and escalator shaft providing improved access to the platforms.
I have been working on the project for 1 year seconded to Costain as Site Engineer.
